Course Outline

The NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) is divided into two key units:

1. IG1 – Management of Health and Safety

  1. Reasons for managing workplace health and safety

  2. Structure and functioning of health & safety management systems

  3. Risk management – understanding people and operational processes

  4. Techniques for monitoring and evaluating health & safety performance

2. IG2 – Risk Assessment (Practical Application)

  1. Managing physical and psychological health

  2. Preventing musculoskeletal disorders

  3. Handling chemical and biological hazards

  4. Addressing general workplace safety issues

  5. Safe use of work equipment

  6. Fire prevention and protection measures

  7. Electrical safety and control of related risks


Eligibility Criteria

The NEBOSH IGC is suitable for anyone looking to enhance their understanding of workplace health and safety. It is particularly recommended for:

✔ Individuals new to Health & Safety (seeking foundational knowledge)
✔ Supervisors and Managers responsible for workplace safety
✔ HSE Professionals aiming to strengthen their qualifications
✔ Learners holding basic safety certifications such as:
• IOSH Managing Safely
• OSHA 30-Hour (Construction or General Industry)

There are no formal academic entry requirements; however, candidates must have a good command of the English language, as all assessments are conducted in English.


Assessment Scheme

The NEBOSH IGC qualification consists of two assessment components:

IG1 – Open Book Examination (OBE)
• Conducted online and scenario-based
• Must be completed within 24 hours
• Focuses on applying theoretical knowledge to realistic workplace situations

IG2 – Practical Risk Assessment Report
• Based on a real or simulated work environment
• Candidates identify hazards, assess risks, and propose control measures
• To be submitted within the prescribed timeframe


Passing Criteria

To be awarded the NEBOSH International General Certificate, candidates must achieve:
IG1 (Open Book Exam): Minimum pass mark – 45 out of 100
IG2 (Practical Report): Marked as Pass or Fail
